Being asked to interview for an NHS role is an amazing achievement. You’ve already made it this far, but the next stage is just as challenging if not more so. Especially if you’re interviewing for a role in radiology. At International Staffing Solutions we’ve supported thousands of medical professionals in finding their dream role within the NHS. As part of that support, we’ve put together a guide on how to prepare for your first interview.
How we structured the guide
Our guide breaks down the steps of preparing for an interview process, with each stage informed by our many years of experience. We start with the overview of the types of questions you’ll be expected to answer. Then, we provide you with three techniques to prepare for answering questions. Following that, we go through the types of questions you’ll be asked, providing examples and the best ways to answer.
Techniques to Prepare
We always recommend our clients to use the three following interview techniques:
• STAR
• CAMP
• SPIES
STAR, for example, stands for Situation, Task, Action and Result. Whenever answering a question about your experience, follow the four STAR steps. By setting the scene, describing the task, talking through the action taken and providing the result, the interviewer can gain a good understanding of your experience.
Types of Questions
We have broken down the questions that take place in an interview into six key sections which we cover in depth in our guide.
• Biographical questions
• Clinical scenarios
• Ethical scenarios
• Clinical governance
• Motivation and aspirations
• Questions asked by you
