NMC Registration

How to register with the NMC if you’re a nurse wishing to work in the UK.

NMC Registration FAQs

You can submit your online application as soon as it is completed. Once you submit your online application, your application will go into “READ ONLY” mode. In this mode, you will be unable to edit the application so you must ensure all information is correct before submitting. If you need to submit further documents, email [email protected] who will advise on the appropriate way to get the documents on your application.

Allow 10-15 working days scanning (processing) time for any document posted to the NMC from the date of receipt of the post. You will know once the post has been processed as you will see an update in your document history via your portal confirming the date and time when the post was processed.

Once your portal information has been updated, regardless of whether the NMC are still waiting on paper-based information to be sent, please ensure you press the submit button on your portal. This will ensure that as soon as any post is received and processed, your application will automatically enter the assessment queue.

Please post any documents requested to:

International Registrations
23 Portland Place
London
W1B 1PZ

This address is on each barcoded form. Please do not mark this for the attention of your Assessment Officer unless requested to do so.

All documents sent to the NMC will need to be identifiable by way of the barcoded form; if not, they will not be processed. Do not send any original documents to the NMC as documents will not be returned except in extreme cases, e.g. the candidate is seeking asylum.

When re-uploading documents you will only see the first document historically uploaded. Please change the file name as this will help you to identify the successful upload of the new document. You may not necessarily be able to view the new upload, however, we will be able to see this on your file once your application has been re-submitted so please do not worry if you are unable to view the new file.

In the ‘English Language Skills’ section where it asks for the ‘Test Report Form’ number, please enter your first TRF number followed by a ‘/’ and then your second TRF number. The forward slash segregates TRF numbers.

Your IELTS is only required to be within its 2 year validity period at the very beginning of the registration process. At the assessment stage, we validate this information and confirm whether the IELTS was indeed valid when completing the eligibility. If your IELTS expires after you have completed your eligibility, e.g. during your assessment, this will not affect your existing application. If you wish to create a new application, please ensure your IELTS is within its 2 year validity when completing the eligibility section.

Your CBT is valid for 2 years, within which, you must complete your NMC registration and sit and pass your OSCE. If your CBT expires before you sit your OSCE, you will need to re-take the CBT and complete a new NMC registration before you can sit your OSCE.

The NMC will not accept an application if the applicant is a second level nurse or the equivalent. For example, an enrolled nurse, a licensed practical nurse, a vocational nurse, a state-certified nurse, a nursery nurse, a nurse–midwife technician or a nurse aid. They also will not accept medical qualifications as a basis for registration. If an applicant has trained as a doctor or a medical technician in their home country, they will not be eligible to register with the NMC even if this qualification allows them to carry out the duties of a nurse in their home country.

Read the email carefully to establish what information is being requested in the feedback. Forward the email to [email protected] who will advise on what needs to be done.

Unfortunately it cannot be definitively confirmed when the re-assessment of an applicant’s file will take place. The NMC try to re-assess applicants’ applications as soon as possible, although this may not be possible in some instances. Please be aware that applications will be assessed within 60 days from the point in which the status changes to ‘Ready for Assessment’.
