About the Role:

  • Ability to offer expert opinion & take full & independent responsibility for clinical care of patients across the wide spectrum of Gastroenterological disorders
  • Experience of General Medicine
  • Experience of & commitment to teaching undergraduates & postgraduates
  • Experience of supervising F1, F2, ST trainees.
  • Ability to & experience of teaching clinical skills
Essential criteria
  • Full GMC Registration with License to Practice
  • MRCP/MBBS or equivalent

Desirable:

  • Evidence of entry on the GMC Specialist Register or within six months of attaining CCT at the time of the interview.

Main Duties of the Job:

We are looking to appoint a Consultant in Gastroenterology. These services address a range of conditions, including irritable bowel syndrome, inflammatory bowel disease, enteral and parenteral nutrition, complex gastrointestinal disorders (CoG’s), and hepatology.

We have excellent endoscopy facilities which are all JAG accredited this includes a 3-room endoscopy suite at QHB and a 2-room endoscopy suite at SRP. We participate in the national bowel cancer screening programme across the Acute Hospitals.

About the Consultant in Gastroenterology Role:

  • Provide specialist gastroenterology care, including endoscopy, outpatient clinics, and inpatient consultations.
  • Contribute to the care of general medicine inpatients, including ward cover responsibilities.
  • Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to ensure comprehensive patient care.
  • Support service development, clinical governance, and research initiatives.
  • Teach and mentor junior doctors, medical students, and allied health professionals.


Consultant in Gastroenterology Requirements:

  • Evidence of entry on the GMC Specialist Register or within six months of attaining CCT at the time of the interview.
  • CCT in Gastroenterology and General Medicine (or equivalent qualification).
  • Experience in general medicine ward cover, with strong acute care skills.
  • Commitment to clinical excellence, innovation, and service improvement.
