Consultant Haematologist

We are looking for a Consultant Haematologist to join a large department in a trust in the North West.

  • Mix of haematology, oncology, specialty and general medical patients
  • Haematology caseload is outpatient and day cases for bone marrow biopsy, intravenous chemotherapy, venesections etc
  • Chemocare chemotherapy prescribing system knowledge desired
Essential qualifications:
  • MRCP or equivalent
  • FRCPath or equivalent
  • Passed IELTS/OET with required score
  • GMC registration
  • (Desireable) Be on the GMC Specialist Register or be within 6 months of CCT at the time of interview.

Consultant Haematologist Main Duties

  • Haematology caseload is outpatient and day cases for bone marrow biopsy, intravenous chemotherapy, venesections etc
  • Chemocare chemotherapy prescribing system knowledge desired

The department has installed Sysmex analysers. At two sites these are connected by the HST tracking system. This provides a single automated system for FBCs, slide making and staining, and ESRs.  Sysmex NPT analysers are also installed on the Day Wards

For blood transfusion, the Diamed Card System is in use throughout the Trust and Gel station.  For coagulation, Instrumentation Laboratory analysers have recently been purchased and installed.

Specialised coagulation studies are sent to the Laboratory of the RVI in Newcastle.

The post holder will be expected to undertake clinical work in conjunction with his/her colleagues and other professional staff in order to maintain and develop haematology services and develop specialist skills in accordance with the needs of the department.  You will be responsible in conjunction with colleagues for planning future development of these services.

The post holder will participate in a weekday and weekends on-call rota for haematology services.  And will be expected to cover colleagues in their absence and ensure continuous patient care. The post holder will be expected to deputise in the absence of colleagues in cases of annual leave, study leave and sickness as far as is practicable.
